Les Iles Falkland (je vais utiliser ce terme plutôt que Malouines, qui rappelle l'espagnol Malvinas pas très bien vu localement), ce sont deux grandes iles, West Falkland et East Falkland, et plein de petites iles en périphérie. Nous avons deux points de chute prévus pendant cette semaine, et le premier est sur Saunders Island, au nord-ouest (j'ai fait une petite
carte pour s'y retrouver). Le seul moyen de transport, c'est l'avion, de la compagnie FIGAS (Falkland Islands Government Air Service). Elle gère 5 petits "Islanders" de 8 places, dont les pilotes sont capables de voler par quasiment tous les temps, et qu'on utilise un peu comme des taxis (mais en prévoyant à l'avance). Moi qui ne suis pas fanatique de l'avion, j'appréhendais un peu. Première étape, chacun d'entre nous et l'intégralité de nos bagages sont pesés, car chaque kilo compte (et la répartition des kilos dans l'avion, aussi). On est ensuite scientifiquement divisé en deux groupes, chacun dans son avion, et nous voilà partis.
Falkland Islands are made of two main islands (West Falkland and East Falkland) and scores of smaller islands all around. We have two of them on our schedule for this week, and the first one is Saunders Island, on the Northwestern part of the archipelago (I'm putting together a map). The only transportation possible is by plane, from the FIGAS company (Falkland Islands Government Air Service). They run five 8-seaters "Islander" planes, and their pilots can fly in almost any type of weather. You use thess planes as you would a taxi, but with a lot more advanced planning. I'm not a big fan of planes, and these felt initially a bit too small for comfort. First step, each of us is weighted, with all their luggage, as every kilo matters (and how these kilos are placed in the plane, also). We are then scientifically divided in two groups, each one in a plane, and off we go.
