Trondheim

Nous arrivons à Trondheim au petit matin. Le M/S Nordstjernen, en route vers le sud, est à quai à côté de nous. Il part à 10h, dans la mer qui fume comme une marmite, c'est impressionnant. Différence de température entre l'eau et l'air, parait-il. Il faut dire qu'il fait -10°C ici (et il parait que ça va être pire) et l'eau est aux alentours de 8°C (eh oui, le Gulf Stream).

We arrive in Trondheim early this morning. The Southbound M/S Nordstjernen is docked behind us. She leaves at 10am, the sea is smoking like a pot on a stove, it's impressive. I'm told it's because of the temperature difference between the water and the air.  It's -10°C here (and supposed to get worse), and the water is around 8°C (thank you Gulf Stream).



Fêtes de Noël oblige, on va faire relâche une journée entière et on ne repartira que demain midi. On profite du jour qui vient (lever de soleil officiel vers 10h) pour aller se promener en ville. Bien équipés, du bonnet aux bottes de neige, ça va. Il y a plusieurs cm de verglas sur les trottoirs et les chaussées, mais il est recouvert de gravier, et ça passe sans soucis.
La Nidelv est gelée par plaque et fume toujours. On va jusqu'à la cathédrale Nidaros, le soleil commence à monter par dessus les montagnes et éclaire le clocher. Retour au bateau toujours sans encombre mais le mercure descend encore (jusqu'à -15°C après la tombée de la nuit). A bord on a droit à un gløgg (vin chaud local) pour se remettre.

Due to Christmas, we will stay here for 24 hours and leave only tomorrow morning. We take advantage of daylight (sunrise around 10am) to go for a walk in town. We have proper clothes, from beanie to snow boots, and doing fine. There is a few cm of ice on the sidewalks and roads, but it's properly covered in gravel and we can walk without problems.
The Nidelv is frozen in place, and also smoking. We walk all the way to the Nidaros cathedral, the sun is peeking over the mountains and lits the spire. Back to the ship still without problems, but the temperature is getting lower (-15°C after sunset). On board we are offered a glass of gløgg (mulled wine) to warm us up.


On revient à la cathédrale à 16h pour l'office de Noël. Beaucoup de monde, des chants, des lectures (en norvégien, c'est pas facile à suivre), intéressant et émouvant.

We are bused back to the cathedral at 4pm for the Christmas Office. A lot of people, songs, lectures (in Norwegian, not easy to follow), it's a very interesting and moving moment. 


Le soir à bord c'est buffet de Noël, avec des plats traditionnels norvégiens (ils font subir des choses inavouables à certains poissons, mais au final c'est plutôt pas mauvais). Exceptionnellement à bord de l'Express Cotier on peut sortir la cravate ou la belle robe (mais c'est pas obligé). Après le repas on peut aller chanter des chants de Noël (en trois langues) et comme le veut la tradition, danser en rond autour du sapin (mais c'est pas obligé non plus). Il y a même un petit sapin lumineux sur le bateau. Joyeux Noël à tous!

Tonight on board is the Chritsmas buffet, with many traditional Norwegian dishes (they do some unspeakable things to fish, but it's actually not that bad to eat). For once, you can wear your nicest dress or suit with tie (but you don't have to). After the meal you can go sing Christmas Carols (in three languages), and danse around the Christmas tree (but you don't have to). There is even a small Christmas tree in lights on the ship.
