What is the pictogram in a weather forecast, for a clear day in an area where the sun does not rise above the horizon? It's half a sun under a horizontal line : there is sun, but you don't see it. Even though the sun is hidden, it still is working hard! At 8.30am there is a ray of golden light behind the mountains to the East, and a bit of searchlight on the snow to the West, and the light increases slowly but steadily. At noon, the pink and yellow of sunset give way to the orange and red of sunset on the snowy mountains. It's absolutely breathtaking and we spend the whole morning (until 1pm) on the bridge so as to not miss a minute.

Magique, juste magique.
The main port of call today is Tromsø, Paris of the North, gateway to the Arctic and so forth. It's a student town, well animated during the holidays. We arrive at 2.30pm, it's almost fully dark by then and it's a weird feeling of end-of-day tiredness, but it's only the middle of the day. For sure, even if it's beautiful for a few hours, after a few months you must grow sick of it.
And we are officially in the right are for the Lights of the North (the night ones), we have the right conditions, so we round up warm clothes and photo gear and we wait... Not too long, here they come and they dance and float around the ship. Sheer magic.

Bonjour Sophie,
