I'm getting old, I didn't even woke up for the crossing of the polar circle (7h 17min 40s), but a little bit later I'm out on deck to greet MS Polarlys. The weather doesn't seem very gracious, and the morning sees a mix of snow showers and grey skies. I stay out anyway to enjoy the landscape until we arrive in Ørnes, it's a very nice stretch.

There is an almost return of the sun after departure from Ørnes. It doesn't last for very long, and the snow returns. It takes sometimes a lot of faith to discern the mountains in the background. Interesting atmosphere. I spent a little bit of time in the overcrowded panorama lounge (gone is the time when MS Lofoten was doing winter rotations with 20 passengers). It's still snowing heavily as we arrive in Bodø, and we can't even see the mountains behind the airport's landing strip. It keeps on snowing all through the stop in Bodø, so I do my usual activity there (napping).

Bizarre.
Some shy lights on the horizon as we leave Bodø, today you must not be picky and take things as they come. The Lofoten wall will be for another day (and besides, it's going to be dark, there are some compromises to be made for a winter journey). As we leave the harbor, we are overtaken by two small boats of the local sea rescue organization. They dart towards the high sea very fast, and come back just as fast 15 minutes later. Weird.

Indeed, we realize a bit later that something is happening. There is a fishing boat in great difficulty, seriously leaning, probably taking in water. There is another boat on the lookout nearby, and the damaged boat's crew is getting into liferafts. It's rather impressive. I couldn't get what exactly happened, but we learned that everyone apparently got out safely.

Another rescue boat sails past us as we near the Landegode lighthouse. If they are coming from the Lofoten islands, it's quite a trip! Anyway, the sinking boat is under good care, and we keep on sailing as if nothing happened. The Landegode lighthouse is probably my favorite lighthouse of the trip, as it's the gateway to the Lofoten, and I'm glad I can see it during a somewhat bright interval, which doesn't last long as the snow is coming back. But before it disappears in the grey nothingness, I am rewarded with a wink!

On repart vers 23h.
There is a lot of wind (pushing us, thankfully) and so the Vestford crossing is quite animated. So much so that dinner is postponed to a later time. As far as I'm concerned, I find quite bearable the horizontal position in my cabin, getting up from time to time to look through the porthole at the sea coming and going as the ship rocks and rolls, and snow falling hoizontaly (ah, it's rain now).
We arrive in Stamsund 30 minutes late, diner is served. As we leave towards Svolvaer, sailing along the coast, we now get the wind from the side, and it's increasing the rolling significantly. In my cabin, the rolling is so strong that my porthole sometimes disappear under sea level, and I find out it's not watertight. As it shouldn't last for long, I just manage with my towels. It lasts a bit longer than expected, because we can only sail at about half the normal speed, and the arrival in Svolvaer is over 1h30 late. The events planned later on near Trollfjord are cancelled, the stop in Svolvaer is reduced to 15 minutes and I barely have time to get my feet on Lofoten's ground (or rather ice, it's a mix of old snow thawed by the rain and frozen over, much fun). We leave around 11pm. I have an optimistic disposition, but I think Northern Lights will not be on the menu tonight, and it's probably wiser to go to bed.
