I grab a quick lunch and head out in the streets of Honningsvåg, with the main goal of finding (of course) a tripod. I go to the tourist shop nearby to ask if there is a chance to find this item, I leave with a map and two adresses. The first one is not good, but the second one, bingo! It's an electronic shop whose owner must be the all-in-one repairman as people come for appliances to fix (from cellphone to alarm clocks). Not only does he carry tripods, but there is even a choice! So I find one that will do the trick and I leave with my precious package.

Today was an absolutely amazing day, so it will be told over two messages. It starts with brilliant morning lights as we arrive in Havøysund. Showers moving on the pink horizon, dramatic sky over the Northernmost windmill field (yes, we are now in the area for all the "Northernmost" stuff). We meet MS Finnmarken.

As always, I have missed the stop in Harstad and I get out on deck as we leave. The sky is overcast this morning but there still are some lights on the snowy peaks. I don't go out much this morning, I'm a bit tired and I'm trying to sort out my photo gear problems.

This morning we will arrive in the official North, above the Arctic polar circle. And you can feel that it's much colder out on deck. I did not calculate the time of the polar circle crossing, actually I thought I had missed it, but with the new schedule we sail there a bit later, and also we are late, again. Nice sunrise.

Trondheimfjord

With the new schedule, we are now arriving in Trondheim at 10.00 (instead of 8.00 before). So I was rejoicing in being able to see the arrival in Trondheim, which I kept on missing, until I realized that it was exactly the same route as when leaving Trondheim, a long sailing in the Trondheimfjord. Never mind, and let's watch anyway. The sky is grey this morning, very low clouds hanging below the mountain tops, interesting.

Urke

Urke is a charming small village at the end of  Hjørundfjord (to be precise, on the Norangsfjord which is a small branch). The location is incredible, albeit somewhat isolated (but you can also get there by road, at least in summer). There are less than 50 inhabitants all year round, but it gets busier in summer (holiday homes and camping), and in September/October the Hurtigruten ships call here every day.

Back to Hjørundfjord

Here I am, back in Norway with Hurtigruten. It's almost a pilgrimage in fact. In April 2006 I did my first trip aboard MS Lofoten from Bergen to Kirkenes and back to Svolvaer, first trip of a long serie and still not tired of it. Back then, there were two of us, now I'm back to do almost the same trip alone. I booked this autumn trip because there were rumors it would be the last trip for MS Lofoten on the Coastal Express route, and I'm too attached to this ship to not be on it. It turns out she will sail again all through the end of 2020. But I maintained the trip anyway, and I will stop in Svolvaer on the way back, next step of my pilgrimage.

This time I flew direct from Pairs, not much to say about this but I arrive at night. I meet onboard for dinner a lovely woman from Strasbourg, with whom I've been in touch online for several years, she's also an addict of the line and of this particular ship. She is also on this trip and I'm happy to meet her for real. I settle in my (extremely tiny) cabin and then dinner, departure, sleep.

I set my clock to see if there were morning lights, and there are! A very nice dramatic sky with some sunrise lights, which then disappear in an instant. We are just out of the Stad Sea, which has been very quiet last night. There is snow already on the mountain tops!
