Urke is a charming small village at the end of Hjørundfjord (to be precise, on the Norangsfjord which is a small branch). The location is incredible, albeit somewhat isolated (but you can also get there by road, at least in summer). There are less than 50 inhabitants all year round, but it gets busier in summer (holiday homes and camping), and in September/October the Hurtigruten ships call here every day.

After lunch I take the shuttle boat to take a walk in the village (on the way I take some pictures of MS Lofoten in the fjord, she looks very small!).

The walk in the village is very pleasant, the weather is ideal, there are trees with autumn leaved, brightly colored houses, sheep with bells, an all purpose shop (groceries, post office, pharmacy, bar...), mountain stream, high mountains... You can't get more typical. If you want to experience fjord country in Norway, it's here (and it's now, have you seen those colors?)

Upon landing we are given a map which indicates a viewpoint in an elevated location, it's actually a non-view point as the perspective is hidden behind a row of trees... That's alright, I found some other ones.

These are the cabins for the local camping (closed at this season), isn't that appealing?

Good things come to an end, I'm back on board after 1h30 of walking, and it's a good idea as it starts to rain (weather changes quickly). We wait for the last shuttle, and at 15h45 we are sailing again, to do all this in reverse. The landscape is still very beautiful in spite of a greyish light. There are not many people on board as most are on the bus excursion, we'll get them back in Ålesund tonight.

We are offered some onboard entertainment, on the rear deck the chef gives us little toasts with typical (of course) cured mutton meat, with some whipped cream (with horseradish maybe?). It's very good but very salty, if I had a malicious mind I would think it's a ploy to make us buy some beer, which they conveniently sell for the occasion. Perfect organization.

Weather is uncertain and the end of the fjord is disappearing behind us, in a somewhat scary fog.

We have some hints of a sunset as we arrive back in Ålesund. We won't have much better, but I'll take it. The evening stop is a bit longer than this morning, but I decide to not go ashore.

Dinner tonight is a buffet, because of the passengers coming back late from the excursion. Starting tomorrow evening we will have a seated 4 courses meal at an allocated hour, for me it's a burden as it's so long, especially when we arrive in Northern Lights territory... But we are not there yet. Tonight, I will try and get some advance in sleep (or catch up on some lack of sleep, I'm not sure).
