Iles Lofoten (1)

Il a continué à neiger pendant la nuit, et quand nous nous levons il y a 10cm de neige devant la porte de notre rorbu. Il neige toujours, d'ailleurs, quand on va récupérer la voiture de location (avec pneus cloutés, quelle belle invention) et il neige encore pendant la première heure de notre balade. Ca fait une ambiance un peu curieuse d'ailleurs, pas désagréable, et puis ça nous change, mais quand même, ils sont où les sommets?

The snow has kept on falling during the night, and in the morning there are 10cm of snow in front of our rorbu. It is still snowing when we pick up our rental car (with studded tyres, which are great!). It is snowing again during the first hour of our car trip. It is not that bad actually, the atmosphere is weird but not unpleasant, it's different for us, but hey, where are the mountains?

On a décidé aujourd'hui de suivre la route E10 (la route principale) vers le sud/ouest de l'archipel, peut-être jusqu'à Nusfjord, sans doute pas jusqu'à Reine - on se connait, la dernière fois le premier jour on a réussi à aller jusqu'à Henningsvaer (25km de Svolvaer) en s'arrêtant tous les kilomètres pour contempler le paysage... Henningsvaer, aujourd'hui, a des allures de ville fantôme sous la neige poussée par le vent, mais pourtant il y a plein de bateaux qui partent et reviennent au port car on est en pleine saison de la pêche à la morue.

The plan for today is to follow the E10 road (the main road) in the south/west direction, maybe as far as Nusfjord, probably not as far as Reine (we know what we are capable of, last time on our first day we barely manage to get to Henningsvaer - 25km from Svolvaer - stopping every kilometer to enjoy the scenery...) Henningsvaer today looks a bit like a ghost town with the wind and the snow, but fishing boats come and go in the harbor in spite of the awful weather - it's cod season.

Mais rapidement la magie des Lofoten va opérer. Le temps change vite, on nous a dit. En effet. Les nuages partent d'un côté, le soleil perce de l'autre, le vent pousse la neige sur les sommets comme une fumée, il y a des lumières d'apocalypse (ou de paradis...) qui passent et s'en vont... Et ça sera comme ça toute la journée, une averse de neige, une éclaircie, en rang serré, et des merveilles devant les yeux.

But  there's magic in Lofoten. Weather changes quickly, we've been told. You don't say. The clouds disappear one way, the sun shows up in the other direction, the wind blows the snow across the moutain tops (it looks like smoke), incredible lights... And all day long it continues, from snow shower to beautiful clear sky, one after another, and it's so amazingly beautiful...

On réussit quand même à aller jusqu'à Nusfjord (bon, en fait ça nous a fait faire un détour, qui n'était pas indispensable) puis jusqu'à la plage de Ramberg où la mer est en colère. Et c'est pas tout ça, mais il va falloir songer à rentrer...

We manage to arrive in Nusfjord (although maybe the detour was not necessary) and then to the beach of Ramberg, with a very angry sea. And it's getting dark so we have to head back...

La balade en raquette à la poursuite des aurores boréales, prévue pour ce soir, a été annulée de fait de la mauvaise météo. Du coup, on guette les lueurs vertes par la fenêtre du rorbu, entre deux averses de neige. Là, tu crois? Regarde bien? Ah zut des nuages. Bon, et là? Ah? Ah ouiii! Et hop, dehors à toute vitesse avec tout l'attirail photo, et bien sûr c'est fini. Tant pis, puisqu'on est là, on va tenter les photos nocturnes de rorbus... (croyez moi sur parole, les lumières à gauche sur la première photo, c'est le MS Finnmarken à quai).

We were supposed to go on a snow shoe hike tonight (hunting the lights!) but it has been cancelled because of the weather, so we peer at the sky through the window hoping to catch a green hue between two snow showers. Here, look? You think so? Ah, clouds again. And now? Maybe? Yeesss! We're out in a hurry with all the photographic equipment but of course they are gone. Well, let's try and take some nocturnal rorbu pictures (believe me, the bright lights on the left are from the MS Finnmarken).

J'espère qu'il va encore neiger demain...

I  hope it will be snowing again tomorrow...
