Un jour de légende(s)

C’est déjà notre dernière journée complète à bord, alors on veut en profiter au maximum. Ca tombe bien, parce qu’il fait très beau ! C’est un plaisir d’être dehors pour regarder passer le MS Vesterålen dans les lumières du matin. Des membres d’équipage sortent nous saluer au passage (mode ronchon « c’était mieux avant »: ça se perd vraiment, les saluts entre bateaux…).

Today is already our last day on board, so we want to make the most of it. Easy to do when the weather is so gorgeous! It's a pleasure to be outside to watch MS Vesterålen in the morning lights. Some crew members come out to wave hello (grumpy mode "it was better before" : some things are getting lost in the ships crossing spirit...).

C’est aussi la journée des légendes scandinaves, avec ces héros mythiques réincarnés en rochers, du matin au soir. Notre premier héros, c’est le cavalier (maintenant l’ile Hestmanøya), juste derrière le Cercle polaire. Comme il fait beau et qu’on a le temps, notre capitaine sympa nous offre juste avant un passage alternatif, entre les rochers, très pittoresque ! (Mais je ne sais toujours pas si mon "indien endormi de profil" est sorti ou non d'une légende...).

Today is also the day of the Scandinavian legends, with its mythical heroes re-incarnated into rocks and mountains, from morning to evening. Our first hero is the Horseman (now the Hestmanøya island), just on the Polar Circle. As the weather is so nice, our friendly captain offers us an alternate route just before the Circle, between rocks, very picturesque! (but I still don't know if my "sleeping indian" is part of a fairy tale or not...).

On profite ensuite de la halte rapide à Nesna, que j’ai vu le plus souvent sous la neige ou le brouillard. C'est très charmant en fait! La seule chose un peu étrange, c'est que après avoir donné des signes de faiblesse pendant tout le voyage, la grue a rendu l'âme hier à Svolvaer. Un camion grue est venu vider toute la cale, et le MS Lofoten en est quasiment réduit à faire le promène-couillon... Les escales du coup deviennent bien vides, ça fait bizarre. Les pièces pour réparer la grue devraient être disponibles à Bergen, donc ça devrait s'arranger rapidement.

We then enjoy the brief stop in Nesna, which I have mostly seen in snow or fog (or both). It's a very charming town actually! The only unpleasant thing is that, after showing signs of weakness during all the trip, the loading crane finally gave up last night in Svolvaer. A crane truck came to empty the cargo hold, and MS Lofoten is now a passenger ship only... The stops now feel very sad. The pieces to repair the crane should be waiting in Bergen, so hopefully this will be resolved soon.

A midi on est à Sandnessjoen (et son pont suspendu que j’aime bien), et juste après voilà notre héros suivant.

At noon we are in Sandnessjoen (and its handsome suspension bridge), and just after, here comes our next hero.

Enfin plutôt héroïne, et en fait elles sont sept : les montagnes des Sept Sœurs, que je n’ai jamais réussi à apercevoir jusqu’ici ! Et là les conditions sont idéales ! Vous pouvez compter (il y a des jumelles !).

Actually, a heroin, and seven of them! The moutains of the Seven Sisters, which I never really saw until then. And today the conditions are ideal. You can count on the picture above (there are twins!).

Très jolie escale aussi à Bronnøysund, et dans la lumière du soleil qui descend, voilà notre 3ème héros, le roi-troll ou plutôt son chapeau, percé par une flèche (lancé par le cavalier de ce matin, tout s’enchaine), maintenant la montagne de Torghatten. A tous mes voyages précédents, on est passé là de nuit, donc c’est la première fois que j’ai l’occasion de le voir, et c’est une bonne occasion ! Mission « Légendes » accomplie !

Another lovely stop in Bronnøysund, and as the sun is setting, here is our third (and last) hero, the Troll-king, or rather his hat, pierced by an arrow (thrown by this morning's Horseman), now the Torghatten mountain. It's the first time we are here in daylight, and once again, the weather conditions are perfect. Mission "Legends" accomplished!

Le vent se lève en soirée, créant de jolis embruns au passage du bateau. Encore une fois on a le lever de lune avec le coucher du soleil, on ne sait plus de quel côté regarder (enfin, on s’arrange, mais c’est beau partout !). Pour une dernière journée, c’était (encore !) une très belle journée.

In the evening we have a stronger wind which creates nice sea sprays around the ship. Once again, the sun is setting on one side and the moon is rising on the other, so there is no shortage of interesting views. For a last day, it sure was a beautiful day.
