On the road again, again (again)

This was our last night at Eungella, last breakfast and last morning platypus. It has been a great spot overall, and a lovely wildlife watching area. Well worth putting on a Queensland itinierary! The water is smoking in the cold morning, and the BBC cameraman is already (still?) in position beneath the bridge, waiting for the elusive cormorant. I hope he didn't spend the whole night there. What a job!

And we are gone! First, we go down the mountain road to reach the coastal route (Bruce Highway) where we left it in Mackay.

During's today drive I will give you some more creeks of the trip. There are those with a name of someone or somewhere ( (Fitzgerald Creek, Liverpool Creek, Mackenzie Creek, Moresby River, Murray Creek ,Parmentier Creek and Sullivans Swamp - I don't know what Sullivan has done to have his name associated with a swamp), those that talk of women and love, happy or unhappy (Beatrice Creek, Eleanor Creek, Gentle Annie Creek, Maiden Creek, Goodbye Creek and Little Goodbye Creek), and those behind which there is certainly a remarkable story  (Breakfast Creek, Double Barrel Creek, Prospect Creek, Rise and Shine Road, Waistcoast Creek, Skeleton Creek ou Deadman Creek).

We stop in the little town of Mirani, where I let go of a great life opportunity. And close by we can enjoy the sugarcanes in bloom.

By mid-day, we are at our next stop, Cape Hillsborough (see map). We (actually, M.) chose this location firstly because it is beautiful, and secondly... You'll see tomorrow. We are hosted for 3 nights in small bungalows in a huge caravan and camper park, very popular, and I'm a bit scared it will be terribly noisy. But Australians are very civilized campers, and it's actually very quiet. Our cabins are right on the edge of the beach, it's awesome. After settling in and having lunch, we go for a hike on a trail leaving from the beach and going up on the hill. It's quite steep but the view is well worth the effort. This is looking west.

Et la vue vers l'est.

And the view towards the east (and the mainland).

We come back "home" along the beach, the geology is interesting, and I have a small crush on that lonely mangrove tree in this mineral desert (it's not completely dead I think, but not completely alive either).

There are still traces of cyclone Debbie, part of the coastal path is collapsed or blocked by trees (but you can walk on the beach anyway).

Today is Friday and Fish & Chips day at the park's bar/cafeteria! Rejoice. It's actually quite good, and lots of fun. If you are not into Fish & Chips, there is, as always, a self-service barbecue plate (and even a microwave). We enjoy a soft, lovely sunset, and we go to bed early, because we will wake up early.
