And suddenly, in front of us, sea ice, packed, immaculate. Will this stop the ship? Not at all. The captain pretends his ship is an icebreaker (and seems to be incredibly delighted about it, according to Anja's comments in the loudspeakers) and steer the bow of the ship directly towards the ice. It is actually quite a recent sea-ice (we will later learn that 2/3 weeks ago, temperatures here were around -20°C...) and it is not very thick, the ice-strengthened hull of the Fram can break it without difficulty. It's absolutely spectacular to see the ice breaking in front of us and along the side of the ship... We see plenty of penguin tracks.

When we arrive near Argentine Islands (I put the "Argentine Islands" marker on the map at the spot where the ship moored), the sky clears up even more and it is hard to find words to explain how beautiful it is, the sky, the sun, the light, the clouds, mountains, glaciers... We meet again with Podorange, anchored to the ice in front of the Ukrainian station Vernadsky. The MS Fram's side propellers are put in action to chase away the ice, to make room for the Polarcirkel Boats (PCB cruises and a landing at the station are in the planning).

Meanwhile, the sun and blue sky invade everything! Mountains come out of the clouds, glaciers glisten, the sea reflects, there even are some penguins sunbathing on the edge of an ice patch...

It's absolutely amazing (there really are no words), we would happily spend hours here going around the ship to see everywhere, it's sunny, it's hot, it's sunday, and we indulge on a beer in front of the show. So, so happy.

And two videos to show the immensity of the landscape around the shipe (port side - looking south - and then starboard side - looking north). I didn't think of taking a video of the ship cruising through the ice... Next time?
